Twin Hawk was released in 1989 and developed by Toaplan, it goes by the name Dai Sen Pu (Great Whirlwind) in Japan.

Twin Hawk is set in World War II and you control a fighter plane. You only encounter ground and water based enemies, which means the only obstacle are the bullets being fired up at you.

The game consists of one huge level, which take twenty minutes to do the full cycle back to your base. There are very limited and very short breaks from the enemies to give your hands and arms a rest. If you go make the full cycle, you start the next round and keeping in the same fashion there is no pause for you to rest, and as a higher difficultly level.

Your fighter plane has machine guns mounted for you to return fire on your enemies. This machine gun is able to be upgraded via destroying certain enemy vehicles, then flying over the upgrade. Your guns are only able to be upgraded twice, and if you die you are reset back to default. The special weapon is a squad of six fighters that are only slightly helpful, due to their limited movement they are shot down easily. However pressing the special button while the squad is in formation will make your squad kamikaze into the closest enemy. Also if you press your special weapon button again twice before the squad is in formation you will cause you squad to kamikaze in a huge explosion a little ahead of your plane.

Twin Hawk was ported to the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis in 1990 and to the PC Engine in 1990 only in Japan.
